The influence of paramilitarism in Northern Ireland on the recognition of CSE in young males

Dr Jacqui Montgomery-Devlin

This paper is the second in a series of briefings on learning arising from the research on potential impediments to recognising the sexual exploitation of young males under 18 (Montgomery-Devlin, 2019).

It summarises a specific theme emerging from the study, that of the influence of paramilitarism in Northern Ireland on the recognition of CSE in young males. In doing so, the paper sets out the context of paramilitarism in Northern Ireland, explaining its significance to the study undertaken and highlighting factors impeding the recognition of CSE in males within these environments.
